Cauliflower Thoran



Ingredients

  • cauliflower finely chopped 1 medium sized
  • onions finely chopped 4 nos
  • coconut oil 1 tblsp
  • urud dal 1 tsp
  • mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • cumin seeds 1tsp
  • curry leaves 1 strand
  • grated coconut 1/2 cup
  • green chillies chopped 4 nos
  • turmeric 1/2 tsp
  • salt to taste

Method
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and after they splutter add cumin seeds.
  • Add urud dal and saute till it turens brown.
  • Add onions and saute till they becomes soft.
  • Add green chillies, turmeric powder, curry leaves and cauliflower florets.
  • Switch off flame when a few boils appears at the sides. 
  • Check salt and add if you require more salt.
  • Heat oil in another pan for tempering. Splutter mustard seeds, add broken dry red chillies and curry leaves. Switch off flame, pour over khichadi.
  • Serve with steamed rice and sambar.

Serves 4-5 persons as side dish


NOTES
  • Do not add too much water while grinding coconut paste.
  • Add spicy chilly as per choice.
  • If small beetroot you may grate 2 beetroots.
  • Use the small grater holes to grate the beetroot, cooks faster and tastes good.
